➡️ WTH is Personal Brand?

Have you ever been enchanted by someone on Linkedin?

I have many times. And always wonder…

~ “How do they make their presence so vibrant on Linkedin”

What’s the secret sauce?

Let me tell you my story—

I was in college when I started posting on LinkedIn.

And I think that has been one of the best decisions of my life.

That’s me guiding hackathon projects when I was in college.

I knew nothing but some lessons from a failed startup.

⏩ Fast forward to now, I have made countless connections.

And opportunities I couldn’t imagine getting without having a personal brand on Linkedin, with over 3 million impressions and 32K followers.

So, today I am opening up and sharing…

5 tips that got me where I am today. On LinkedIn.

So what special do I do?

0) I started.

And take this as a reminder for you.

Don’t wait for perfection to start.

The best time to start was yesterday, the next best is today.

All the best achievers I know:
👎 they didn’t perfect themselves and then started
👍 they started half-baked & improved themselves every day to perfection.

1) Define your purpose and optimize your profile.

With the risk of sounding boring…

Answer this simple question - ‘What do you want to be known for?’

Think beyond your current role. Think beyond where you are right now.

Unless that’s what you want to be known for.

Are you a marketing intern looking to become a CMO?
Think and engage like almost-a-CMO.

As they say, dress for the job you want.

On LinkedIn, act for the personal brand you want.

Know your ‘why’ → and let it guide every decision you make on LinkedIn, from your profile picture to your headline and summary to the topics you post about.

Quick tips for profile optimization:

i) Headline:

  • Use keywords that reflect your expertise but also convey

  • What is the one thing that you do that is different from others?

ii) About Section:

  • Tell your story! Please. Don’t be boring.

  • Use this space to share…

    • your journey

    • what drives you

    • and what you’re passionate about.

Make it more of a conversation between you and the reader, and later end it with a call to action.

For example, if you offer funnel optimization services —

“If you are struggling with your funnel numbers, just ping me for a quick 15-minute consultation call”

And, it doesn’t necessarily need to be asking them for money.

It could be as micro of action as suggesting… “Hey, now that you have read everything about me and know about me more than my maternal aunt, why don’t you just shoot me a DM?” which also becomes a nice ice-breaker.

iii) Experience & Skills: Don’t list out your duties. Tell me what you learnt from your experiences and what impact you created in those experiences.

Don’t write a biography.

2) Authenticity > > > Anything

Authenticity makes you memorable.

Share your real experiences, the good, the bad, and yes, even the ugly.

Especially, the ugly. Trust me - that’s what people resonate with the most.

People don’t connect with brands → they connect with other people.

When you’re true to yourself, your audience feels it, and that fosters real engagement.

3) Define your umbrella of content

Choose the pillars you want to build on.

What are those 2-3 things you want to write about? And these 2-3 things can not be — coffee, yoga, and how to pet a dog.

I wander around the topics of:

  • Marketing & psychology in marketing

  • Personal experiences in entrepreneurship

Yes, you can have those rare and out-of-the-box posts once in a while. But, remember your core.

4) Network with a clear strategy

Don’t network like you’re collecting Pokemon cards.

This is one mistake we make when we initiate connections.

We must understand how the LinkedIn recommendation algorithm works.

  • The content you see on your feed
    AND

  • The 2nd and 3rd-degree connection suggestions you receive

— Both depend on your connection preferences. So be wise in this upfront.

→ Send a special note for connection requests. Add a compliment.

→ Try not to ask anything in your first message. Too needy! 🙈

→ Comment more often than you post.

→ You know this LinkedIn notification is very frequent —

‘Deep and others added 23 more comments on Y’s post’

Leverage it.

→ Think about this if you are getting less reach.

You see others getting 1000s of impressions.

You get 200. You get disappointed. But, shouldn't you celebrate?

200 people reading a post could be imagined as 200 people sitting in front of you and listening to what you have to say. And, that’ll give you chills.

5) Consistency, Quality, and No BS

Consistency post while maintaining quality and authenticity.

Don’t post, just because you have to maintain the calendar.

In fact, it's better to break than write a sh***y post.

Your content should either educate, inspire, entertain, or inform.

→ 2-3 times a week is the best frequency initially.

→ No BS Zone: Avoid jargon-filled buzzwords OR corporate speak.

→ Regularly review your profile, your content strategy, and your network.

Don’t be afraid to pivot if you need to. And, keep your eyes open to:

  • What types of posts resonate most with your audience?

  • Which topics and formats get the most engagement?

Double down on what works, and don’t be afraid to experiment.

And speaking of learning from what works…

here’s a little experiment I recently did:

➡️ I fed my LinkedIn posts (that got me 3M+ views) to AI🤖
