WTH is Predictive Analytics? 😲

Predictive analytics is — using past and current data to make educated guesses about what's going to happen in the future. And, use that for better marketing.

Let’s break it down. Shall we?

You have got a lot of data from various sources — website visits, customer purchases, social media interactions, and even how the weather or seasonality affects what people buy.

Predictive Analytics’ job is to mix these ingredients together using algorithms to cook up predictions about future trends, customer behaviours, & sales patterns.

Once your data is cooked and your predictions are ready, it's like having a forecast that tells which products will become popular, which customers are likely to buy again, or when sales might dip or peak.

Think of Spotify. Spotify's Discover Weekly playlist is like having a personal DJ who knows your music taste. Even better than you do.

How? By using predictive analytics, Spotify analyzes the songs you love, the ones you skip, and even the new genres you explore, to create a custom playlist every week. It also knows what time of the day you prefer listening to what.

It's like magic, but instead of pulling rabbits out of a hat, Spotify pulls out songs you're bound to love. And, that magic is the force behind Spotify’s massive user base increase and retention from 2015 to 2023 (in Millions).

If you are a curious soul… here’s the kind of data Spotify uses to understand and predict your music taste:

Release dates of the songs you listen to and like, Artist, Album, Genre, Tempo, Instruments, Danceability, Loudness, Emotional tone, and tens of more features and characteristics of the song.

In other examples…

Mayo Clinic is the largest nonprofit and one of the most highly-rated medical institutions in the world. They have developed a predictive model to forecast each patient’s outcomes after surgery.

Here’s what it does —

It takes into consideration factors like:

  • Patient history

  • Current health status of the patient

  • The type of surgery the patient will go through.

With just this information, the predictive AI predicts potential complications. And then that is used to suggest personalized pre-operative and post-operative strategies, personalized to each patient.

5 interesting learnings about Hubpost

If you are a marketer and don’t know Hubspot, you are probably living under a rock. To set some context Hubspot is a Swiss-army-knife tool for marketers with a focus on its CRM features.

As a public company in the US, it has around $32B market cap, growing at 25% yearly, and has an astonishing gross profit margin of over 80%.

Here are some interesting facts about Hubspot (borrowed from SaaStr article):

1) New customers are growing 23% a year and that is amazing for a company that is at 200k+ Customers & $2.4B in ARR.

2) Revenue Growth is up Just 24%. NRR Likely Down to Around 100%.

3) ACV (Annual contract value) is flat at $11,365.

4) It has doubled its operating margins from ~10% to 17% in just 1 year.

5) They have 7,770 Employees. So About $310k in Revenue Per Employee.
