➡️Why are podcasts a big thing now?

Have you ever found yourself lost in a podcast?

(Ask Me! —I’ve been there.)

I have my own definition of a podcast. (Maybe a little narrow but it’s intuitive)

“Podcasts, when done right, make you feel like the third person sitting with the other two having an in-depth convo on everything that you ever wanted to ask the other two!”

Sometimes you’re just enjoying a conversation on a podcast while cooking on a fine Sunday.

You enter into the podcast with just the acquaintance with the host, but end up getting impressed by the guest and their persona.

— Only to realize later that you were subtly persuaded by a brand’s message? That’s the magic of podcasts.

The warm conversation made you believe that their product/services are the best ones to choose because they are so passionate and confident about theirs.

🔴But why are podcasts so influential?

🧠 Reason — They create intimacy.

But not every podcast has the potential to invoke the warmth among the audience.

To do so→ The list of questions must induce that exclusivity and personal touch. Let’s study 3 of such podcasts that successfully did so.

But, the real question is “Are branded podcasts really impactful in numbers?”

Let’s uncover some stats from a survey conducted by Sounds Profitable on 2400 American adults and some other surveys.

📈Stats That Prove Podcasts Are Marketing Gold

  • 71% of podcast listeners say they’ve visited a sponsor’s website after hearing an ad on a podcast ( WeEditPodcasts ).

  • 54% of listeners are more likely to consider a brand after hearing it advertised on a podcast. ( Avidly )

  • Podcasts reach an equal number of men as women and are most popular with the 18-54 age group. ( Tone Island )

  • These numbers point to one thing: podcasts drive engagement, build awareness, and influence purchasing decisions. In fact, brands that integrate podcasting into their marketing campaigns see, on average, a 14% lift in purchase intent. ( Grow your Business )

But still, you’d see very few marketers and new brands opting for podcasts as a marketing strategy, Why? — Because they’re clueless about the ROI and the impact.

Let’s learn how’s the impact that podcasts created with 3 case studies.

🦉Case studies🦉

1️⃣ Four Sigmatic

What they did — Four Sigmatic, a health-conscious brand specializing in mushroom-based products, utilized the popular The Skinny Confidential podcast to share their story.

What they did — Backblaze, a cloud backup service provider, began sponsoring the Cortex podcast, leveraging the trust audiences had in educational Youtuber CGP Grey and co-host Myke Hurley.

How they utilized podcasts — The brand was featured in personal stories shared by the hosts, making the advertising feel more relatable. The podcasters emphasized Backblaze's role in securing important documents during a hard crash, adding credibility to their service.

Impact — The personal, authentic storytelling in podcast sponsorships helped Backblaze increase brand awareness, associating their service with reliability and trust

3️⃣ Talenti

What they did — Talenti, a premium sorbet (an Italian dessert ) brand, strategically chose to advertise on the food and beverage podcasts Gastropod and Spilled Milk.

How they utilized podcasts — The brand's pre-roll ads featured hosts posing engaging questions that resonated with the audience. The authenticity of the hosts' endorsements boosted the campaign's reach.

Impact — A survey by Midroll showed that 74% of listeners recalled Talenti's ads, and 71% were more likely to purchase the brand’s products, demonstrating the effectiveness of well-placed podcast ads.

⚡My 4 suggestions for Strategising sponsorship and guest appearance on podcasts

1️⃣ Avoid hard sell— Go soft, Go subtle

→ Ask the host to weave your product into their narrative. (if you’re the sponsor)

→ If you are the guest, then make your brand part of your story ( Accept podcast invites or approach them)

2️⃣ Go for Micro-influencers in podcasting

Okay, I know the audience size matters. But the relevance of the podcast matters too!

So, you can not just go for the biggest fish in the pond that doesn’t taste your like.

Quality over quantity → Choose podcasts that discuss relevant content.

You can use tools like Podsearch to find such podcasts by category.

3️⃣ Create an exclusive ‘Podcast offer’

It makes them feel special, drives engagement and provides a way to track ROI through unique offers, discount codes, or landing pages.

4️⃣ Repurpose Podcast Content for Multi-Channel Impact

→ Post the best moments on your Instagram reels and YouTube shorts to create a wider impact and increase reach.

→ Share informal BTS clips and photos.
